Consultancy

There will be times when you need specialised consultancy. This usually happens when you want to explore an area in detail and work to embed best practice in your company.

We can work with you, for example, to:

  • Review your policies and procedures - ensuring each one really works for your company and will be actioned, rather than sitting in a file in HR
  • Guide you on "Positive Action" (as opposed to positive discrimination)
  • Help you set up employee networks - these could include groups for carers, or lesbian, gay and bisexual groups, creating an inclusive working environment
  • Carry out staff and customer surveys and consultation - helping you understand what your staff and customers really think about your approach to equality and diversity and where you may need to work harder.
  • Implement efferctive monitoring processes.

 Example Case Study

The financial services sector has always been at the forefront of developing proactive diversity strategies. Our consultants have worked in the financial services sector and seen first hand how a well-considered approach to diversity and equality can improve business performance.

Richard Purser, previously Relationship Marketing Manager for the West Bromwich Building Society, and the newest member of the Diversity People team, was responsible for the development and delivery of their customer led diversity strategy. The community led engagement approach of the West Brom included developing a bespoke multi-lingual radio advertising campaign. The positive reaction in the community led to the creation of a number of new products including money transfer to home addresses and Sharia'a compliant mortgages. The end result was a more positive perception by the local community and an employer of choice status.

The West Bromwich Building Society has consistently appeared in the top three national ranking listed in the annual benchmarking study, Race for Opportunity. Often it was the only regional organisation in the top ten, competing against over 100 organisations including FTSE 100 companies, government departments, the police and armed services.

But their results have been more tangible than simply being listed as one of the best in the area of diversity.

The West Bromwich Building Society has seen...

  • 10% attributable increase in profits and an extremely high return on investment
  • Success at diversity award schemes and positive media coverage, at no cost
  • Improved rates of customer reaction to sales and marketing efforts
  • New product development, excellent campaign responses and conversion rates in previously untapped markets
  • Raised Executive profile with the CEO recognised as an industry expert, leading to visits from ministers and royalty
  • Diversification in suppliers, increasing local suppliers and improving value
  • Increased staff involvement in activities and becoming an employer of choice
